Pretty soon, Andy Boat and I worked out an agreement and construction started. Boat would do all of the carpentry and I’d do the finish work like painting and staining. I’d rowed a boat that Boat had built before, but when the first picture (on the left) arrived, I had a difficult time imagining that this pile of boards and plywood would ever amount to anything at all.
It’s funny how many things in life we take for granted. You just save up some money and buy what you need or want, but seldom take the time to figure out how the item was made. Watching the boat come together really shows what kind of planning, patience, and craftsmanship it takes to make something of true value.
