You probably know this type of boater; the person who has a hard time with commitment. This year they’re training in an Alden rowing shell, next year outfitting an Ericson 38 keeps them busy—until the following season, when it’s traded in for that new Cal 20 they’re now feverishly tricking out for racing. What gives? Read the rest across the jump at 48North.
How high broadside waves can the Terrapin take without bad trouble?
I hate to say it, but it depends. Long period stuff and most wakes are fine- the boat rises. Short stuff a foot high, steep, and stacked doesn’t always dump in, but sort of smacks the side shoots up and laps over the gunwale. I’ve occasionally had one come up over the bow. But rowing perpendicular to steep stuff is no fun.
