Summer. As I get older, I like its warmth more and more, but my tolerance for crowds only seems to go down. For some reason it seems that there are an increasing number of moto-maniacs on the water in the last two years. So many in fact, that I’ve mostly avoided summer boating. Although they’re covid-smart enough to avoid indoor gatherings, they don’t seem notice anyone else out there- especially if they have an oar in hand. It’s just mayhem on the water.

Bicycles by comparison seem able to go places that the motorized crowd mostly avoids or simply can’t get to. Score. Forest roads: yes. Trails: yes. Secret neighborhood cut throughs: yes.

Still, I miss sailing on a nice windy day, one where the elements, not my fellow boaters are the challenge.

I keep asking myself when will everyone get out of my sandbox?
