Well you say it was bound to happen, and maybe you’re right. We added a boat to the fleet.
Yes, we.
So, despite having two perfectly good boats, my First Mate and I decided we needed one more.
My friends Doug and Michael fixed up the rotting hull of this beautiful lapstrake, Bolger-designed chebacco, but were ready to move on to other projects.
While I can run a table saw and mix epoxy, my forte is more in the realm of adventure, so I was glad that they could clean her up and leave me only to work out the operating systems. Although she is now structurally sound, she’s only been on the water a few times and for all intents and purposes is a new, empty boat.
Over the winter I’ve been working with some friends to get her ready for a summer cruise.
I wrote an article about the first night out over at 48 North Sailing Magazine. Lean into the discomfort, click the link. Make the jump! Enjoy.
And here is me after building and sailing a Chebacco decided to downsize to SCAMP. The boat that fits at that time if life.
Cheers!
Randy
I’ve always admired Chebaccos, especially the lapstrake ones! Congratulations! I’m curious if you ever try a well designed yuloh with her how that works out for another quiet form of propulsion?
All the best, Scott
A friend is helping me make a sculling oar right now. I’ll let you know how it goes…
Very cool! I look forward to it.
All the best, Scott
